About.

Dr Charles Su is an eye specialist and surgeon who has been in private practice based in Melbourne, since 1996. He specialises in surgery of the eyelids, tear ducts and orbit. He offers the latest in surgical techniques including endoscopic tear duct surgery without a skin cut or scar.
Charles was a member of the senior medical staff in the Orbit, Plastic, and Lacrimal Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital from 1997 to 2023 and now is exclusively in private practice. His education and training was obtained at the University of Melbourne and the University of Michigan (USA). He is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Australasian College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member and past President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons.
He has received the Medal of Excellence from the Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists for his qualification examinations in 1994, and an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his regular teaching there for more than 10 years.
Charles has published contributions to the Australian Medical Journal, Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology (USA), Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (USA), and has presented original papers in major scientific meetings in Australia, USA, and Asia.
His approach emphasises safety first. He takes great care to ensure that unnecessary procedures are avoided. He believes that the most up to date yet well-tested techniques should be used, and that he should make himself as available to his patients and referring health practitioners as possible. He makes ongoing audits of his techniques and results to minimise complications and optimise results.

He provides oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery, but does not treat any general eye problems such as cataract, glaucoma, or pterygium. He treats functional and disease-related abnormalities, but not purely cosmetic conditions such as lower eyelid puffiness or xanthelasmas.
To see Charles for a consultation you must make an appointment. If you wish to claim any payment from Medicare for the fees you must have a valid referral from a doctor or optometrist. Before your appointment, you will need to fill out a patient registration form here.
